We’ve had the appearance of still waters here at d.iscontent headquarters lately, but there’s plenty of activity in the depths.
Our biggest news is an impending live performance by Miniature Airlines, and not just any live performance; he’ll be participating in the annual gladiatorial event known as the Laptop Battle here in Seattle, at Chop Suey on December 18th. this is a live performance spectacle, pitting 16 musicians against each other in a fight to the finish. Look for a full line-up and other details shortly, and make sure you come out to cheer on Miniature Airlines! Audience participation will help determine the winner of this brawl.
Of course, while preparing for this battle, Miniature Airlines is also still hard at work on his upcoming full length, tentatively titled Arrivals & Departures. There’s no firm release date, but early winter 2010 is the best bet.
Speaking of new albums, Hjalti is in the planning stages of his next aural assault. Now that he’s returned from Scandinavia, he’s upgrading his entire music setup, starting with the battered and sputtering laptop that has served his musical needs for the better part of this decade. Once the new hardware arrives, he’ll be starting on a new project that by all accounts should be bleaker, heavier, and darker than anything he’s done before. Look for this currently untitled project to fully integrate his primal influences, from minimal IDM to grim black metal.
Keep watching this page for more information as all of these projects develop…
Posted by the Supreme Commander | No commentWe take a short break from our frantic (*ahem*) self-promotional posting schedule for a little cross-promotion: next week heralds the 6th annual Decibel Festival in Seattle. From the 24th through the 27th of September, you can catch some of your favorite electronic artists at a number of venues here in the fine city on the Puget Sound, playing everything from sublime ambience to grimy dubstep, smooth house to hard techno. It will be a rollicking good time, and perhaps you will even bump into Miniature Airlines behind one of the merchandise booths. (I would mention Hjalti as well, but reports indicate that he is wandering the wilds of Scandinavia at the moment).
So come one, come all! Decibel Festival only happens once each year, and it’s not to be missed!
Posted by the Supreme Commander | No commentThe new Hjalti record is officially out. And Will You Leave Me Thus? Say No. Say No. Say No. has been released for public consumption. We make no claims as to the safety of your headphones or car stereos. Download at your own risk. Special thanks to the Naturebot (courtesy of Pleasure Boat Records).
Posted by the Supreme Commander | No commentWe’ve been a little quiet since February, but I can now reveal that Hjalti is int he final stages of mixing for his second album, to be titled And Will You Leave Me Thus? Say No. Say No. Say No.
The new record has all the darkness and subtlety you expect, with a marked black metal influence that differentiates the new record from its predecessor, Winter Asks What We Did In The Summer. Expect fast kick drums, hazily distorted drones, wide-open dynamics, verbose titles, and some processed guest vocals from d.iscontent’s close ally, Droomstyyg. Along with the five lengthy original tracks, there will be a couple of guest remixes to round out the set. More details will be coming soon, including a sneak preview single of the second track, “The Stars Are Scattered Thinly, and The Cold Of Space Seeps In.” You may have heard this track debut on KBCS earlier this year, so if you’ve heard it, you know what’s coming.
Posted by the Supreme Commander | No commentWe’re almost there! In about 60 hours, Hjalti and Miniature Airlines will be performing live at the LoFi Lounge in Seattle. Tickets are available for pre-sale right now, at a discounted rate of only $8! There are a total of 7 live acts on the bill, including Anticon’s Restiform Bodies, touring in support of their new album, TV Loves You Back. I can’t tell you enough how incredible and diverse this night is going to be, with music veering from twisted hip hop to blistering black-metal inspired IDM (seriously!). I know there are a lot of options that night, but this is definitely the best value for your money.
If you missed the on-air interview on KBCS 91.3 FM last Friday, you can listen to it online, and get a preview for this upcoming night. Go to the KBCS.FM website, and search for Variations with DJ Gregory D, February 13th from 11pm to midnight. Thanks a lot to Gregory for inviting the boys on!
See you at the show!
Posted by the Supreme Commander | No commentTonight! On your radio! (You remember what a radio is, right? That thing we all had before MP3 players and Pandora?). Miniature Airlines and Hjalti will be live in-studio guests on Variations, an electronic music show on KBCS 91.3, Seattle, from 11pm until midnight. They also have a live stream, for the technologically advanced. Tune in and listen to the world premiere of a brand new track from Hjalti, along with self-glorifying answers to our interviewer’s questions, and probably some awkward small talk. All of this is a lead up to the big event. Next Friday! Live at the Lofi Lounge!
Posted by the Supreme Commander | No commentYes, it’s true! The D.iscontent crew will be performing live yet again. Miniature Airlines and Hjalti will be playing support slots for Restiform Bodies, on their TV Loves You Back tour on February 20th. Restiform Bodies are headlining the main room at the Lofi Lounge, with (n1nth)cloud and Egadz, and the D.iscontent kids will be rocking the second room, with the able assistance of Travis Baron, Erictronic, and xBen. It’ll b a rollicking good time, so buy your tickets in advance, while they’re still only $10!
Posted by the Supreme Commander | No commentAt long last! The new Miniature Airlines single is out! Continuing our tradition of seasonally themed releases (which I swear is purely coincidental), this one is called First Snows & Last Leaves, and it features not only two brand new Miniature Airlines tracks, but also four remixes, for a grand total of six new tracks. More like a maxi-single or EP than a plain old single really, but we’re sticking to our guns and calling it a single. That way you feel like you’re getting more for money. What’s that? You didn’t pay a cent for this? Quite right, as usual. Enjoy it, compliments of the crew here at D.iscontent.
UPDATE: Windows users have reported difficulties unzipping track 4, due to illegal characters in the filename. If you download the zip file, track 4 will probably show up as a 0 byte file. You can download this track directly by clicking on the title in the tracklisting, and a new .zip file will be uploaded later tonight. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Posted by Miniature Airlines | No commentThe D.iscontent crew is stepping up their actiity, with an active release schedule for the coming months, and exciting news about new artists joining the roster. We’re not posting details yet, but we will let you know now that a new single is on the way from Miniature Airlines. Tracks are being finalized as we speak, and we’re hoping to include a few remixes with this release. If you’re interested in creating a remix, please email Miniature Airlines, and find out how you can get your hands on a remix kit or two.
Posted by Miniature Airlines | No commentOn Tuesday, November 4th, the United States will elect a new President, bringing an end to eight disastrous years of failed Neoconservative policies (we hope). Also on that night, Canadian citizen Miniature Airlines will be playing a Nectar, with a slew of other great producers and DJs, while you all watch the election results and raise a celebratory glass for the election of America’s first non-white Commander in Chief (we hope). Hope to see you there. Miniature Airlines will be playing material from his Pushpin Revolution EP live for the first time ever that night, so this will be a special show for many reasons.
