Car Stereo Destroys Michael Bolton Tape

Car Stereo Destroys Michael Bolton Tape

Car Stereo Destroys Michael Bolton Tape has been playing at record stores, house parties, and social awareness events since 2003. The mysterious pair has been known to drop live remixes, astronomy related hip hop, and Iron Chef samples in their notorious live sets, and smash all genre boundaries while DJing. They’re about as likely to get your ass on the floor as they are to confuse the hell out of you, depending on their mood that evening. Banned from MySpace!

Miniature Airlines

Miniature Airlines

There are plenty of bedroom producers out there using the latest and greatest plugins and soft synths to create their music, but what sets Dylan Abbott (aka Miniature Airlines) apart from the rest is his attention to songcraft. Instead of following dancefloor-oriented templates to build his tracks, he draws on his background as a songwriter to make structured pop songs full of melodic development, while borrowing techniques from the worlds of IDM, glitch, and synthpop. Using the obtuse and crash-prone tracker program known as Buzz, he has released a string of EPs in the last few years, followed by his first full-length album, Arrivals & Departures, in 2010. If you catch one of his live performances, expect longer, deconstructed version of his songs, along with new, unreleased material with the same melodic sensibilities.

Hjalti

Hjalti

For the past two years, Seattle-based musician Timm Blakley (aka Hjalti) has been creating music that creeps around the edges of many genres, but doesn’t fit comfortably into any of their confines. How can you categorize music that combines the subtle harmonies and tones of ambient music with the shattered complexity of IDM, and then layers it all on top of rhythms that build to the climactic intensity of industrial and black metal? How do you reconcile the cerebral glitch techniques that are used to create this music, with the raw emotional catharsis revealed in the end results? Then again, worrying about techniques and categories is beside the point when you can just listen, and let this dark and distinctive musical vision speak for itself.
